Craig is getting his Eagle Scout Award tomorrow and we are very proud of him. One of the regrets I had during the early days after Craig's accident was that he would never be able to get his Eagle, which he had completed a couple of months before. He is also the proud owner of a 1999 Honda Accord. We have been doing a lot of practice driving with him, and he is doing pretty well. He is still a little jerky on the pedals, but improving. The plan is for him to keep working with us until we feel he is ready to take the driving test for real. This week he told us that he is starting to feel normal again, although a few pieces are still missing. He actually said that he feels 88.654% normal (he always uses 3 a places to describe his degree of normality). Work is going well but is very tiring for him. Our hope is that he will continue to build up stamina over the summer and be ready for a full school schedule in the fall. He is continuing to workout with the football team, but no contact hitting.
The decision has been made to repeat 11th grade next year, and then graduate from High School in 2009. We feel that time is on our side here and that there is no reason to push extra hard to get him to graduation next year. In Craig's terms, this past year will be a red-shirt (do-over) year.
