I went with Craig to therapy last
week, the first time I have been with him in a while. I was surprised at how hard they worked him. He ran 40-yard sprints
in 7.8 to 8.1 seconds. His therapist told me that of all the head injury patients he has worked with, he has never got to
the point of running sprints. While Craig's recovery is incredible, I sometimes wonder if we are pushing him too hard
or expecting too much. He is pushing us hard to get a job and start driving again. In order to get his license back he
has to pass a written driving test, a reaction speed test, and an actual driving test with a specially trained occupational
therapist. The thought of turning him loose on the world again is somewhat daunting, but ultimately inevitable. School is
out in a couple of weeks and he is going to be really bored if we don't get some outside activities set up.
Craig went to another school dance last week and did really well. He did not have any problems with the feelings of sensory
overload that he had at the prom in March. The theme for this dance was Famous Couples, he and his date went as
a king and a queen. The next day I asked him if they were a particular couple or just generic royalty. He said that they were
Queen Elizabeth and King Tut. Maybe we can him into a history class next year! | |
