I realize that
I haven't done an update for a while, and there is a lot to catch up on. Craig saw his rehab doctor this week. He wants
to further reduce, then eliminate, the provigil, which is the stimulant Craig has been on since October. We cut back
this week, and he is noticably more fatigued in the evenings. We will give it some more time and then decide if we need to
maintain a higher level. The doctor feels that things are going well enough that he does not need to see Craig for another
3-months.
Craig has a date for the Jr. prom next week and is excited to go. School is still going well, although
he had a hard time reading a book last week. Physically he is still making progress, and I was surprised how well he did throwing
and hitting a baseball last week. I have noticed that on the stairs at the house he kind of jogs a little bit, the way
normal (young) people do. Just another sign that things are still coming together.
The duck saga took an interesting
turn this week. He met with the pet store owner who has been taking care of his old ducks, and learned that they are very
happy and healthy on the farm. Craig agreed that taking care of two, full-grown ducks is a little more than he needs right
now, but the store owner just happened to have some new baby ducks. Craig and mom came home with one on Wednesday. On Thursday,
however, Craig took it out to run in the yard, and it kind of fell over and died. Sad day. So this morning they went back
to the store and somehow came home with two, new and improved baby ducks! Craig named them Bingo and Dingo. So I guess we
are back in the duck business.
Last night the family went out to dinner with grandma and grandpa. After dinner,
Craig excused himself to go to the bathroom. A few minutes after he came back, the waiters came to the table singing happy
birthday and brought the free dessert. Apparently Craig did not go the bathroom, but instead found the manager and told them
it was his brother's birthday (it wasn't). Too funny.
One additonal note, some of you may have seen
ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff on TV talking about the brain injury he sustained in Iraq. I bought his book that he and his
wife wrote, 'In An Instant'. It is amazing how similar many of the events in that book are to Craig's experience.
I think those of you who were closely involved with Craig during the hospital time would find it an interesting read. |
